Biography

 

Paul Cannon graduated from University College Galway in 1998 and completed his ophthalmic training in Sunderland, Newcastle and Manchester. This was followed by Fellowships in Adelaide, Australia and Manchester. He was appointed as an Oculoplastic, Orbital and Lacrimal Consultant in Manchester in 2016, having previously been a Consultant in Shrewsbury and Stockport.

He has many years of experience in managing oculoplastic/orbital and lacrimal conditions and undertakes a wide range of specialised surgical procedures associated with these conditions in addition to aesthetic procedures. He also performs cataract surgery. He has been involved in introducing innovative new surgical techniques to the department and takes an active role in teaching and mentoring in the internationally renowned Manchester Oculoplastic Fellowship, which trains doctors from all over the world.     

He continues to contribute to research with numerous peer-reviewed articles and sits as a reviewer to a number of international ophthalmology journals including Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Clinical Experimental Ophthalmology and Eye. He has given lectures and presentations at both national and international meetings. He is a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgeons Society and the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

  • Eyelid malposition- ectropion, entropion, ptosis, brow surgery
  • Minor lesion removal/biopsy
  • Eyelid tumour excision/ reconstruction
  • Watery eye surgery- stent placement, punctal surgery
  • Blocked tear duct surgery- both external and endonasal approach
  • Orbital surgery- decompression, excision of tumours, orbital floor fracture repair
  • Socket Surgery- orbital implants, revision socket surgery
  • Aesthetic procedures- botulinum toxin injection, dermal filler injections, blepharoplasty (upper/Lower)
