Biography

Mr. Vinod Sharma is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, a leading institution in the UK, with over 30 years of experience in ophthalmology. He is fellowship-trained in strabismus, paediatric ophthalmology, and cataract surgery, having completed prestigious fellowships at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India—one of the best eye institutes in the country—and at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester, UK.

Mr. Sharma has dual subspecialist interests in paediatric ophthalmology and complex cataract surgery. He manages a wide range of paediatric eye conditions, from simple refractive errors to complex disorders such as paediatric cataracts, glaucoma, uveitis, keratoconus, optic nerve abnormalities, and retinal diseases including Coats’ disease and retinopathy of prematurity. He also performs both adult and paediatric strabismus (squint) surgery.

Alongside his paediatric work, Mr. Sharma is one of the highest-volume cataract surgeons at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, regularly performing a broad range of complex and routine cataract procedures. He offers customised solutions, including presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses, to help reduce patients’ dependence on glasses. His surgical outcomes are audited through the National Ophthalmology Database (NOD) Cataract Audit, ensuring transparency and national benchmarking.
